Washington, 27/09/12(SPS)-. La presidenta del Centro Robert F. Kennedy para la Justicia y los Derechos Humanos, Sra. Kerry Kennedy destacó que es indispensable que la ONU supervise el control y la protección de los derechos humanos en el Sáhara Occidental.
Kerry Kennedy en declaraciones recientes a la revista "Maroc Hebdo" ha indicado que las Naciones Unidas y Francia pueden hacer muchas cosas para sacar la cuestión del Sáhara Occidental de su situación actual de desidia.
Ha señalado la dimensión de la opresión y las graves violaciones a los que son sometidos los saharauis en los territorios ocupados, destacando que la delegación recibió cientos de quejas sobre violaciones cometidas contra los inocentes ciudadanos saharauis.
La Presidenta de la Fundación Americana ha declarado que los integrantes de su delegación pudieron circular libremente por los campamentos de refugiados saharauis y han puesto en contacto e interrogado a varias personas.
La delegación tuvo la oportunidad de visitar una prisión para hombres, y una prisión para mujeres y niños y entrevistarse con los detenidos. También se reunieron con representantes del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados (ACNUR) y la Media Luna Roja Argelina, y el Programa Mundial de Alimentos y la Oficina de Enlace de la MINURSO.
Kerry Kennedy subrayó que a parte de los organismos de las Naciones Unidas en El Aaiún, radica el Comisionado de Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados (ACNUR) que a diario se encuentra en el campo y tiene mandato y competencias para proteger los derechos humanos, y puede recibir quejas anónimas y efectuar las investigaciones necesarias. Pienso que si las organizaciones internacionales que se preocupan por los derechos humanos están pidiendo que éstos en el Sahara Occidental sean vigilados por la ONU, habrá que preguntarse ¿Por qué esto no se hace así?
